Final farewell to FIP Interim President James W Ashton
FIP Interim President James W. Ashton passed away on the evening of Sunday 14th February following a fall during a 10 goal match in Thailand. James sustained serious injuries while playing a game at Polo Escape in Thailand when his horse came down at speed, stumbling, unable to recover. He was rushed to the nearest hospital in Pattaya but never made it.
It was on his invitation that Malaysia sent a team to play at his Millamolong Station in October last year. A month later, he took over the mantle of FIP Interim President at the adjourned FIP General Assembly in Buenos Aires.
Keen to see polo develop in Zone D, James started a tour of Asian countries last week. He spent a last weekend in Singapore, before coming to Malaysia to attend a press conference to announce the FIP World Cup Zone D Qualifying Tournament. While in Malaysia, he visited Putrajaya and Bukit Kiara and played at the Royal Selangor Polo Cluib on Tuesday. He went on to Thailand on Thursday.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to his wife Susan and the Ashton family and everyone at Millamolong. He was a polo legend and gentleman and will be hugely missed by all the polo community the world over.
